Your Website and Your Business

Many companies small and large are cashing in on the Internet craze. Doing business online is becoming more and more popular and is quickly becoming the standard. If you already have a website but your hardly making any sales, Well that could be a problem. Here are some things to consider before you give up on the Internet and toss your website in the Recycle Bin.

Content

This can't be emphasized enough. If your website has no original content then no one will ever go there. Lets face it why should they go to your website when they can find the same boring stuff somewhere else. You can use content from other sites as long as you have permission, and the content is relevant, but don't make borrowing other content a habit. Other content is best used in moderation with original material.

Graphics

Yes, graphics look really cool and some people will return to your site if your graphics are killer but the majority of Internet users still use a slow dial-up connection. If your site has allot of large sized graphics and flash then it will take forever for your page to load for someone with dial-up. Guess what? The person with dial-up won't wait for your fancy graphics to load. They will go somewhere else to get what they are looking for. A few graphics are fine but don't go overboard it's the content that makes the website.

Navigation

Your content is top notch, You don't have to many fancy annoying graphics, but getting around your site is impossible. It's very important to keep the navigation of your website as simple as possible. This can be accomplished in several ways the most popular are either a vertical menu along one side of your website or a horizontal menu along the top. The menu should contain links to all of the major areas of your website and the menu should appear in the same place on every page so visitors can jump around your website freely to find what they need.

Contact Information

E-Mail is a great way for your visitors to ask you questions. At the very least there should be a link in your navigation menu for visitors to contact you if they have questions or problems. Don't direct your visitors to an Auto-Responder either thats rude and will likely cause your visitors to never return. Use an E-Mail address that you check frequently and answer your visitors questions as timely and as accurately as you can. It also helps your customers trust you if you provide a business phone number, postal mailing address, and your name. People are more likely to purchase from you if they have a better sense of who you are.
